Opened in Chigasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture in 2013, kotte provides a place for all those interested in art, including first-time artists and those who want to become artists in the future. While the focus of kotte is on contemporary art, it also emphasizes art academics. Art has been a complex process throughout its history, with particular attention paid to painting. In the early 20th century, painting underwent a transformation into many media, including installation, video, and performance, as a result of Cubism and K. Malevich's "Absolutization of Painting. To read painting is to understand the aesthetic structure of contemporary art, and its spillover into various practices centered on the context of painting is also a fundamental theory of art. While engaging in artist activities in a contemporary manner, we will also experiment with aesthetic practices in the visual style of painting, which has been important in the history of art, while creating art for the 21st century through the perspectives of activists, including the nature of communication in the society surrounding art, history, and philosophy.　(Terumi Goto, Director of KOTTE)

2013年より神奈川県茅ヶ崎市にて開校しましたkotteでは、初めての方やこれから作家活動を目指したい方などアートに興味のあるすべての方の活動の場を設けています。ここでは現代美術においての活動の場としながらも、アートのアカデミズムの観点も重視しています。アートはこれまでの歴史の中で、特に絵画が複雑な過程を経たことについて注視しています。絵画は20世紀初頭にキュビスムや、K.マレーヴィチの“絵画の絶対化”によって、インスタレーションや映像、パフォーマンスなど多くのメディアに変容が行き渡った歴史があります。絵画を読み取っていくことは、現代美術へも通じる美学の仕組みを理解することであり、絵画の文脈を中心軸とした様々な実践への波及は、根本的な美術の理論でもあります。現代的な方法での作家活動を行いながらも、これまで美術史上重要だった、絵画という視覚的様式での美学的実践も試みながら、アートを取り巻く社会でのコミュニケーションのあり方や、歴史、哲学など活動者の視座を通して21世紀のアートを創造していきます。　（kotteディレクター・後藤てるみ）
